China is studying monopoly of three big iron ore miners

4/15/10

BEIJING (Xinhua News Agency) — The Anti-monopoly Bureau under China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) is now studying the world’s top three iron ore miners’ monopoly of the iron ore market, Yao Jian, a spokesman of the ministry, said Thursday, without specifying whether the ministry will take any actions after the case study.

China has noted that the European Union and Japan already started anti-monopoly investigations into the three iron ore miners, that is, Vale SA (VALE), BHP Billiton Ltd. (OOTC:BHPLF) (NYSE:BHP) (BHP) and Rio Tinto PLC (NYSE:RTP) (RTP), noted Yao. (By Zhang Yuenan, zhangyuenan@xinhua.org)
